Organic Lavender Hydrosol
Hydrosols are also known as Flower Waters, Hydroflorates, Hydrolats and Essential Oils Distillate Waters. All of these terms mean the same thing. Our Organic Lavender Hydrosol is produced here in the USA.
Hydrosols are produced during the steam distillation of essential oils. Plant material is placed in the still along with water. Then heat is applied to produce steam. This steam extracts the oils from the plant material and is then condensed (liquified). The essential oils float to the top of the water and are separated from the water. But, of course, some essence and traces of the oils remain in the water. And, voila, there you have a beautiful hydrosol. For more info on hydrosols, here’s a link to Wiki: Wiki Hydrosols
Organic Lavender Hydrosol is very calming and relaxing, with almost sedative-like qualities. Organic Lavender Hydrosol is a mild astringent and it is an excellent skin toner for dry skin. It is great for soothing dry, flaky, itchy skin, rashes, etc.
Lavender has a long history of use; the name coming from the Latin word “lavere”, which means “to wash,” because the Romans added Lavender to their bath water. Lavenderr essential oil was made famous by Rene-Maurice Gattefosse, who, upon burning his hand in a laboratory accident, plunged it into a container of Lavender essential oil and immediately experienced relief from the pain. He was also intrigued to find that the burn healed without the usual blistering or scarring, and became interested in the healing power of essential oils. His studies led to the publication of the book Aromatherapie, and also popularized the term aromatherapy for the study of essential oils.
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is cultivated all over the world, including France, Russia, Bulgaria, the Himalayas and Croatia. Lavender is the most popular and widely used essential oil and for good reason: not only is it remarkably gentle and effective, but it has an almost universally beloved aroma – floral, soft, and herbaceous. We know that you’ll love our Organic Lavender Hydrosol.
Note that Flower Waters / Hydrosols have a shorter shelf life than essential oils, so we always buy in small batches and replenish our stock often. To extend the shelf life of your Lavender Hydrosol, store in a cool dark area or refrigerate. Spritzing a Hydrosol that has been chilled can feel extra refreshing.
