Hydrosols are also known as Flower Waters, Hydroflorates, Hydrolats and Essential Oils Distillate Waters. All of these terms mean the same thing. Our Frankincense Hydrosol is produced here in the USA.
Hydrosols are produced during the steam distillation of essential oils. Plant material is placed in the still along with water. Then heat is applied to produce steam. This steam extracts the oils from the plant material and is then condensed (liquefied). The essential oils float to the top of the water and are separated from the water. But, of course, some essence and traces of the oils remain in the water. And, voila, there you have a beautiful Hydrosol. For more info on Hydrosols, here’s a link to Wiki: Wiki Hydrosols
Our Frankincense Hydrosol is made from Frankincense resin gathered in Somalia and then imported and distilled here in the USA and is much superior to Hydrosols distilled in the middle east and then imported to the US.
Frankincense Hydrosol has a little different aroma than Frankincense Essential Oil. The Hydrosol shares the same fresh, woody, balsamic, slightly spicy and fruity notes but still has a softer smell. In any case, if you like Frankincense Essential Oil you are likely to also enjoy the Hydrosol.
Botanical Name: Boswellia carterii
Shelf Life: Up to 2 years if stored properly (refrigeration is recommended).
Frankincense Hydrosol is soothing and relaxing while at the same time, oddly energizing. Frankincense Hydrosol is mild astringent and is an excellent skin toner for dry skin. Some say a spritz gives an instant face lift.
Note that Flower Waters / Hydrosols have a shorter shelf life than essential oils, so we always buy in small batches and replenish our stock often. To extend the shelf life of your Frankincense Hydrosol, store in a cool dark area or refrigerate. Spritzing a Hydrosol that has been chilled can feel extra refreshing.
