As a culinary and medicinal herb, black pepper has been in use for over 4000 years. The ancient Egyptians used it in their embalming process. For the Greeks and Romans, it was one of the most expensive spices available, the source of which was fiercely protected by traders. Indian holy men ingested 7 to 9 individual grains of black pepper ( the spice. not the essential oil) each day and maintained that the practice gave them enough endurance to travel vast distances by foot.Essential Oil Safety Considerations
