Description

Rose Enfleurage, Organic Limited Edition

Also known as Organic Rose Enfleurage and Rose Absolute.

Rose Enfleurage is one of the most precious oils in the world and known for its delicate, rich fragrance. Our Limited Edition Rose Enfleurage is the rarest of the rare, coming from a small organic grower/extractor in South America who extracts the essential oil by the ancient method of Enfleurage.

Our Limited Edition Rose Enfleurage (Rosa damascena) from South America is pure undiluted Organic Rose Oil extracted by the time honored and gentle process of Enfleurage. This extraction process is quite labor intensive and uses only organic Coconut Oil and organic alcohol to extract the rose oil. Enfleurage gives you a much purer oil than most Rose Oil extracted by harsh solvents which is called an “absolute” (or Organic Rose Absolute).

Limited Edition: What makes this so Rose Enfleurage special?

This Limited Edition Organic Rose Enfleurage is extracted with pure organic Coconut oil instead of the usual organic Palm oil used in the processing of our regular enfleurage oils. This process is more time consuming and takes more Rose petals but the result is very special – pure Rose aroma without the hint of the earthier undernote of Palm oil.

Method of Extraction

Since the essential oil of the Rose cannot be extracted by distillation or pressing, most Rose Oil available today is extracted by harsh solvents in a chemical process that produces a product called an “absolute” (Rose Absolute). Although our Rose Oil is sometimes referred to as an absolute because it is not extracted by steam distillation, it is more correctly called a Rose Enfleurage. It is most rare, coming from a small grower/extractor in South America who uses only local organic Coconut oil and organic sugar cane alcohol to produce a true Rose Enfleurage essential oil.

The Rose petals are picked up very early in the morning while the morning dew is still fresh. Then, they are gathered and transported to the enfleurage facility as quickly as possible. The quantity of flowers picked up for the day is closely matched to the amount which can be processed in one day. If the flowers are not kept fresh, they begin to deteriorate, and the precious volatile oil evaporates and loses quality.

The entire process of extracting the Organic Rose Enfleurage is done by hand using no heat and no harsh chemical solvents. Pure local organic Coconut Oil is used to extract the aromatic oils from the Rose petals by absorption. Once the Coconut oil is completely saturated with the essence of the Rose flower, it is separated from the Rose Oil by cane sugar alcohol which is then evaporated to leave only the Rose Oil. The process for producing our Rose Enfleurage is quite labor intensive and requires many pounds of Rose petals per mL of oil, but the results are astounding. Most would find it difficult to differentiate the aroma of the oil from that of the actual flower.

Enfleurage was the traditional method of extraction used in the 18th and 19th centuries and into the early 20th century. Solvent extraction using hexane has now virtually replaced the enfleurage method except for our own Rose Enfleurage. Solvent (hexane) extracted Rose Absolute is used extensively by the perfume industry. Only organic Coconut Oil and organic cane sugar alcohol are used to produce our Organic Rose Enfleurage and there is no hexane at all in this product. Both methods (enfleurage and solvent extraction) are time consuming, and the oil yields are quite small for the amount of materials used.
