Eucalyptus Smithii Essential Oil
Eucalyptus Smithii Essential Oil (Eucalyptus smithii) from Australia is Therapeutic Quality Essential Oil steam distilled from the leaves.
Preferring wetter conditions than the other members of the Eucalyptus family, the Gully Gum (Eucalyptus smithii) is naturalized in the swamps and trenches of southern Australia. Though it is commercially grown in regions of Africa, as well, we prefer to source our cultivated Eucalyptus Smithii Essential Oil from Australia, where it is produced by steam distillation of the Gully Gum’s fresh leaves.
Eucalyptus Smithii Essential Oil has a pleasing woody, camphorous odor that blends well with lavender, thyme, rosemary, pine and other coniferous scents, and lemon.
Eucalyptus Smithii Essential Oil has many properties, including analgesic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antineuralgic, antispasmodic, antitussive, antiviral, balsamic, depurative, expectorant, immunomodulator, febrifuge, mucolytic, pulmonary antiseptic and decongestant, rheumatic, rubefacient, stimulant (respiratory), tonic, and vulnerary.
This oil is most often used for respiratory issues and complaints of the musculoskeletal system, but also for various skin problems and for conditions related to the nervous system.
For the issues of the respiratory system, Eucalyptus Smithii Essential Oil has been used for colds, flu, sinus and chest congestion, sinus infections, and bronchitis. It is also used for asthma, but its use must be supervised by a properly trained medical professional.
Arthritis, rheumatism, plantar fasciitis, and sprains are among the common musculoskeletal issues for which Eucalyptus Smithii Essential Oil is used, as well as for general aches, pains, and muscles stiffness.
For the skin, Eucalyptus Smithii Essential Oil is used not only for minor issues such as burns, blisters, cuts, and other wounds, abscesses, acne, boils, and insect bites/stings, but also for herpes simplex I and II, necrotic ulcers, and skin infections.
Among the issues of the nervous system that Eucalyptus Smithii Essential Oil is used for are neuralgia, adrenal fatigue, migraines, and for emotional support during periods of constricted feelings.
CAUTION: This oil is considered one of the milder eucalyptus oils, though its use should be avoided around children, as well as around the nose and face. Used externally and in proper dilution, Eucalyptus Smithii Essential Oil is generally non-toxic and non-irritant. Overstimulation has been known to occur in higher doses, which may lead to difficulty sleeping.
Though the Gully Gum has primarily been used as a source of essential oil, since its wildly successful introduction into southern Africa in the early 1980’s, the tree has become an important part of the pulpwood industry.
