This month we’re excited to feature one of our Wholesale clients who runs Louisville Salt Cave in Louisville, Kentucky. This constructed salt cave is made of 5 tons of earth’s purest sea salt.
Halotherapy is the use of salt for its healing properties. Research shows halotherapy eases symptoms and supports relief for those dealing with a variety of health issues such as respiratory problems, skin issues, and more.
A standard session in the cave is 45 minutes. Visitors can meditate or simply recline and soak in the soothing atmosphere. The Louisville Salt Cave also offers guided meditations and hypnotherapy, as well as an hour where kids are welcome.
We spoke with Nicole Bartlett, owner of Louisville Salt Cave, about halotherapy, aromatherapy and sourcing essential oils for a therapeutic salt cave.
1. What’s your mission with Louisville Salt Cave?
My mission with Louisville Salt Cave is to inspire others to find and love themselves. I love giving back to the community, and do so by giving sessions through a number of avenues. In each session, every individual has an opportunity to heal themselves, however they need, and they carry this back out in the community. Quieting the mind is an allowance for whatever is meant to rise in the body to reveal itself. Answers can be provided, creativity can be stimulated, pain can be released, and the Louisville Salt Cave facilitates the quiet stillness necessary to achieve this. In addition, some clients report finding relief from respiratory and skin conditions. It truly is a holistic healing modality that most everyone enjoys!
2. How does Halotherapy (salt therapy) synergize with aromatherapy?
The synergies between Halotherapy, where we invite everyone to “Breathe in Beauty,” and aromatherapy, are many! Halotherapy uses a natural earth product (salt) to reduce inflammation and minimize the microbial load on the skin and in the respiratory tract. Certain essential oils are believed to have similar effects. When focusing on holistic health, I believe it truly is a well-rounded approach to wellness.
3. How do you use essential oils in your business?
We sell essential oil products in our retail area, but do not use them in the Cave. We carry 13 single essential oils from Artisan Aromatics, and have 6 unique blends in sprays, roll-ons and bath salts. The first thing people say when they walk in the retail area is “It smells so good in here!”
4. What are your favorite essential oils?
Lavender is in every one of our blends, because it is so versatile therapeutically and aromatically. We sell a lot of Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Frankincense and Myrrh, and Patchouli is a favorite of my hippy self for managing anxiety. Your products are the best!
5. What do you wish more people knew about halotherapy? About aromatherapy?
With regard to halotherapy, I wish people would just give it a try. The responses we have are overwhelmingly positive, and that is due to all of the different factors to a session. The salt, the crystal formations, the color, the music; it all plays a part in deep rest, and salt has been used historically and currently in our culture for healing. It’s natural, safe and effective. The same goes for aromatherapy, the uses are vast, and work so well in prevention.
6. What’s important to you in selecting a source of essential oils?
When we chose to use Artisan Aromatics, quality was our driver behind who we went with. In addition, you all strictly consider human rights, sustainability and provide so much education around using oils. We love working with this business and are so grateful for what you’ve provided the world. Thank you.
